Ferryland, located on the southern shore of the Avalon Peninsula, Newfoundland, is one of the first settlements in North America. Founded in 1621 by Sir George Calvert it is now the site of ongoing excavation by archeologists. So far they have unearthed the remains of English settlers’ fishing stations, colonists’ homes and workplaces.

In this painting of 1950’s Ferryland you can see the Gothic style Holy Trinity R.C. Church. Ordered to be built in 1865 by Bishop Mullock , it is one of the last old stone churches to be built in NL. It has gone through several modifications over the years and the tower has now been removed.
